Medicare Widens Hospice Vaccine Billing Format

Hospices can get their newly updated vaccine billing instructions in a recently reissued transmittal.
Reminder: Now that Oct. 1 has passed, hospices can bill for flu, pneumococcal, and hepatitis B vaccines under their hospice enrollment, using the institutional claim format, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services says in MLN Matters article 9052. Previously, they had to obtain a supplier number and had to submit the services on a professional claim.
Tip: “Payment made through the [Medicare Physician Fee Schedule] is based on geographic locality,” notes the National Association for Home Care & Hospice in its member newsletter.
