Beware of COVID-19 Fraud Through Social Media, IT

Even during a crisis of epic proportions like the COVID-19 pandemic, you must be on the lookout for fraud. Last month, the HHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) updated its site with a COVID-19 fraud alert. 鈥淪cammers are offering COVID-19 tests to Medicare beneficiaries in exchange for personal details, including Medicare information,鈥� OIG cautions. 鈥淗owever, the services are unapproved and illegitimate.鈥� 鈥淔raudsters are targeting beneficiaries in a number of ways, including telemarketing calls, social media platforms, and door-to-door visits,鈥� says the agency guidance.
